In an earlier day there was a man named Art Linkletter. He hosted the show “Kids Say the Darndest Things.” This fun and revealing show highlighted the fact that children are prone to tell the truth and will do so about most everything! It was comical! To add to that thought, Jesus, in Matthew 18, when asked “Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of God”, said, “…Unless you become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of God.”
What a thought! What a truth! Unless we can humble ourselves and accept some things at face value, as a little child might, our hope of life eternal is limited! I think that truth gives the “high and mighty” something to think about, right?
I have a couple of friends who have two little boys. As young parents, they’ve learned the value of instilling truth and wisdom into their children. I’ve asked if I could share with you a telling of a very sweet story. Here it is (with names changed)…
“Last night, Ben led devotional time with Eric. He got the book and handpicked the devotional he wanted to share. He chose one that talked about what it means to be saved and how you should act as a Child of God (i.e., making strong choices, doing the right thing, etc.). When they were finished, Ben came running downstairs with a huge smile on his face to tell me that Eric was ready to get saved. My husband and I went upstairs to talk to Eric, and he told us the same. After we explained what it meant to give your life to Jesus on a five-year-old level, Ben, Eric, my husband and I prayed the sinner’s prayer together. Eric declared that he’s now ‘a saved boy.’ I said a few weeks ago that nothing is better than leading your child to Jesus, but having your seven-year-old lead your five-year-old to Jesus is on a whole other level.”
This blog is called “Chasing Wisdom”. If you want wisdom, just ask God for it. We are told in Scripture (James 1:5) that if anyone lacks wisdom he should ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach and it will be given to him.” The secret to growing in wisdom is to realize that even wisdom must be approached simply and with the trust of a child.
