In my work as an optometrist, I am often asked to advise a patient on what type of glasses to wear. For example, single vision glasses work one way, bifocal glasses have two distinct parts and work a different way and progressives have an infinite number of focal points and variables and work differently than all others. Some folks hear my explanation and take my recommendation quickly. Others who are not quite so self-assured seem to agonize over the decision. They are afraid they’ll “get the wrong glasses.”
More than a few times I’ve had to say, “This decision is not permanent. If you try them and they don’t suit you, we can change them. Besides, you can do something different at your next eye exam.” When presented in this way, most are willing to “take a leap of faith.”
In the life that you’re now living, you WILL get some things wrong. You’ll make some poor decisions. You’ll say #1 is better instead of #2. You’ll experience difficulties, disappointments, and hurt. You might be tempted to worry that you might not get everything just right and because you aren’t sure of the outcome, you will take the burden of it all and try to carry it. But, I’m writing to you to say that nothing in this life is permanent. If you will be patient and call to the Lord for help, He will give you more than you asked for!
Psalm 30:5 says, “…Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” King David of Israel wrote this Psalm and reminds us that we all (young and old) will have a cause for weeping but in time, pain, sickness, depression and despondency will disappear and God will replace these hurtful things with more pleasant things. David had a relationship with His Creator that allowed him to know with certainty that things would get better.
In verse 10 of Psalm 30, David says, “Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper!” It’s a cry and prayer of desperation. Not unlike your current situation. Listen to what we read in the next verse: “You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, to the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent.”
Regardless of your present dilemma, even if you can’t see where any good can come from it all… turn your brokenness and weeping toward God and watch what He will do… for YOU! Sometimes, we are so close to the trees we can’t see the forest… we can’t see the bigger picture. We get hyper-focused on the present and fail to understand that God’s ways are the best ways and God’s plans are the best plans! Don’t worry, trust God, and seek wise counsel. He will not allow you to get the wrong glasses!
Yes, this post was written for you!
